The White Horse of Alih (Analysis)

Characters:

•Alih - He was a Moro, a non-Christian
•Omar - The older brother of Alih
•Fermina - A beautiful bar maid with a mole near her mouth
•Lucy - She is the first girl Alih liked
•Iman - The village priest who tried to dissuade the two brothers


Setting:

•It happened on July 4th in a town with a huge parade.


Plot:

• Exposition: The story tells about a young Alih and his brother Omar they killed random person to strip themselves of their shame they also prepare themselves for burial. Omar believes that Allah will send them white horse to ride to heaven.

• Rising Action: He sees a girl at a float at the back of the parade. when the float came closer he start to compare the girl to the girl he sex with. He found out that it is Fermina when he saw the little black mole on the corner of the girl’s mouth.

• Climax: Drunken Omar came he walked around the plaza and any one who blocked his way he intent to kill. When Omar is near the girl , Alih run to save the girl Fermina.

• Falling Action: Alih kills his brother, Omar just to save Fermina

• Resolution: Alih is arrested cause he killed his brother, Omar.


Theme/s:

•Filipino's faith beliefs and traditions.


Literary approach used:

•Historical Approach


Analysis:

•They killed random person to strip themselves of their shame and for believing that if a Moro killed someone Allah will send you a white horse to ride to heaven, where thousand of girls are waiting for them as a reward for killing, it is based on religion. But in the end the life of the girl is more important than a white horse.
